Ice Rats Outplays Red Rockets 8-1

Mark Ewing on fire with two goals while Ice Rats scores two goals in the first, goes on to win by a wide margin

In a blowout game, Ice Rats was superior against Red Rockets 8 - 1 at KCIC on Sunday. Ice Rats outscored Red Rockets two to one to jump in to the lead at the end of the first period. Ice Rats gained six straight goals in the second period and held on to its lead. Red Rockets's fate was sealed. With both teams scoreless in the third period, Ice Rats held on to its lead, and was the winner.

Ice Rats's Mark Ewing netted two goals for Ice Rats. During the first period, Ewing lit the lamp with an assist from Dustin Frederickson. During the second period, Ewing scored an unassisted goal. Ice Rats's James Martinson netted two goals for Ice Rats and also had one helper. Ice Rats's Martinson put the puck between the pipes in the first period. Cody Grisham got the assist on this goal. Piling on, Martinson scored a second goal in the second period with assists from Dustin Frederickson and Cody Grisham.

Showing a super performance, Ice Rats's Brad Gardner had 27 saves on 28 shots to earn the win, despite being outshot 28 to 26 by Red Rockets. Red Rockets's Bob Klem had only 18 saves on 26 shots on goal and got the loss.

Despite losing Red Rockets went 1-for-2 on power plays, while Ice Rats went 0-for-1.

Ice Rats ended their losing streak of two games and improved to a record of 6-8. Red Rockets finished the game with a record of 2-12.
