Grand Opening was a blast. It was very cool to see so many people come out to support our Facility and our program. I want to Thank you all so much for coming out. It was a blast.

I know I spoke to lots of people last night about either their child or themselves playing inline hockey. We are looking forward to seeing you all out there.

I also talked to several Ladies about inline Hockey and I am going to be setting up some time in the near future for Girls only to come out and try out hockey. That includes you Moms. KCIC PURCHASES NEW ICE COURT FLOOR

It is Official. KCIC has purchased Ice Court for the New Pavilion after much research on many possible products for Inline Roller Hockey.

KCIC has decided the best floor for the Pavilion, and for the best Hockey and longevity, is to purchase the brand new design, state of the art, and one of its kind, Ice Court.

This flooring cover will enable us to leave it down through the winter, and lay ice on top of it. The Ice Court will also give us the best possible surface for  Inline Roller Hockey.

We are proud to have been able to find such a product as we continue to strive to provide the best facility possible at KCIC.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR INLINE HOCKEY

The equipment needed for Inline Hockey is the very similar to ice hockey, with the exception of the SKATES and possibly the PANTS.

The Skates sold for Inline Hockey are primarily the similar type of shoe as Ice Skates but they have wheels instead of Blades.

There are Roller skates for the younger kids, Those Parents may want to think about , are adjustable up to 3-4 different sizes, and since the younger kids will not ware the skates out as much as the older kids,  they would lasts longer and may be an option.

All Inline Skates are much like Ice Skates as far as wear and tear. they should last your Child for at least a couple of Years.

The Wheels will get changed probably like once a Year, and depending on what service type you are playing on, there would be a few different  Wheels that may have to be used, as there are softer wheels for different surfaces being played on, and if we play at other rinks besides our own, we may have to adjust, which we will likely being do so in our league, as well as our Travel Program.

Your average wheel costs around $6.00 each.

The Hockey pants that are most commonly worn, are a long Pant, that fits like a pair of sweat Pants. They are specially designed for Inline Hockey.

Some people will wear the regular ice hockey type pants in inline.

The only Other change is that the shoulder pads, are sometimes not used, as they are fairly bulky, and since there is not suppose to be any contact, and or at least NO checking some kids do not wear them, and in some cases they will go with another type of protection that is sold, with a minimal padding and wears like a T- Shirt.

ALL the other equipment is the same as Ice Hockey.

ALL Equipment listed:

Helmet with face mask ( Adults use your own judgement)
Skates
Gloves
Shin Guards
Cup or Jock Strap
Elbow Pads
Stick
Mouth Guard

I do want to point out, that none of this equipment has to be brand new, and there are facilities in the Kansas City area that will sell it used.

Any questions call Rick 913-579-2625

DIRECTOR OF INLINE HOCKEY RICHARD HAWKINS BACKGROUND

I am From Fredericton, New Brunswick CANADA.

I Played youth Ice Hockey from age 4 through the age of 15. I had quite a lot of success and accomplishments and I had high hopes of playing high school hockey and my dream was to be able to go on and Play NHL.

I am a HUGE Toronto Maple Leafs fan. I am happy to see them make the playoffs this year.

My Parents divorced when I was 15 years old, and I came to Kansas City with my father.

I met my wife Christine and got married in 1994 . My son Brandon was wanting to get into hockey, after messing around in the basement and on the driveaway so at age 6 we got him into Inline Hockey at Skate City.

When he was in 5th Grade. He wanted to play Ice Hockey he started his first season in the middle of the season, and it was the first year for checking. Brandon got hurt by a check from behind into the boards, and got a concussion. Mom said no more Ice Hockey.

We went back to inline Hockey and started ramping it up, with out of town travel Hockey and lots of out of own tournaments.

Brandon was able to move on quite rapidly and he got a chance to play Semi Pro Hockey with the Junior PIHA Teams ( Professional Inline Hockey Association)

As My other kids started to get older and also wanted to play Hockey they also got into Inline Hockey and have also played Ice Hockey just the last couple of years. One can notice an Inline Hockey player when he comes over to ice hockey, it is primarily there hands, they are quick with there hand eye co- ordination which they develop quicker in inline Hockey. ( My Opinion).

It is also my opinion that anytime a child can play Hockey of any kind , you want to let them. i know there are coaches out there that say Inline teaches bad habits for Ice. I disagree.

I Coached Inline Hockey as a Volunteer Dad for 10 years, and with owning my own bussiness I was able to travel a lot with the kids.

It has been a blast. I Love working with the kids, and seeing them grow as individuals.  I Love teaching them what I know and seeing them get better each time they come onto the floor.  For me, that is what it is all about. I plan to coach  for as long as I can.

I have been very lucky to work with some of the great kids that I have been coaching for the past several years, and we have accomplished a Ton.

We have won several tournaments both in town and out of town, we have had so much Fun. My best times as a coach is when I see a smile on a childs face, because he or she is enjoying what they are doing and having fun.

Last year I had the opportunity to coach and take kids to State Wars which is one of the biggest Inline Hockey tournaments in North America.

We represented the State of Kansas, which is the first time Kansas had ever had been represented. We were able to win a gold and a silver metal.

That to date is my biggest accomplishment for Inline Hockey.

I look forward to topping that someday.

This year I was offered a position at KCIC to be their Director of Inline Hockey, and an oppurtunity to work closely with some great people.

After a couple of days of considering the opportunity, and weighing my options. I realized that this was the next move I needed to make to insure the development of Inline Hockey for this community, the players I have coached thus far, and for the program in general.

To do my part of developing a great Inline Hockey program at a state of the art facility. The owners had told me what their plans were for their new pavilion, and outlined to me where I would come into play.

I am so happy to be here at KCIC, and I am so looking forward to where our program is headed.

I want to thank you all in advance for letting me work with your children, and for the oppurtunity to help them grow as Inline Hockey Players.

I just wanted to share my Hockey history with you folks, so you understood where I come from.

Thanks.
